We are pleased to announce that we will be open from Saturday 17th April and have re-configured the selling area to encourage social distancing. This means that you will no longer need to book a time slot. We ask that you please adhere to government guidelines when visiting us.
Opening hours will be as before:
9.00am - 5.00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
10.00am - 4.00pm Sunday
Closed - Wednesday.

I hope everyone is as well as can be expected! We are planning on the usual wide range of plants and a good selection of finished baskets and planters - plug plant and seed orders have been made and we have our first pallet of compost in. Refilling of your existing baskets and containers will be available as before.
That’s the positive bit! On the negative side there is the potential for disruption in supply. Baskets and planters from China face the twin problems of disrupted shipping and the re-purposing of some Chinese manufacturing to PPE. Plant plugs from the continent now have to have additional inspections/paperwork post Brexit which we have been warned might interrupt smooth supply.
It is currently our intention to operate the start of the season (from mid-April) in the same way as last year. Collection of pre-ordered plants and re-filled customer baskets from the field behind the nursery and timed ‘slots’ for customers to choose their plants/baskets in the selling polytunnel. (Obviously this may change, either in a good way or a bad way, as government guidelines change). Payment by cash, card or bank transfer.
I will update the website in a few weeks time with this years availability list - in the meantime stay safe and look forward to enjoying your garden again!

The nursery will be open from Monday 11th May with the following arrangement:
At this stage, to ensure we all feel safe we will be offering timed slots every 30 minutes - this means there will only be one customer (with partner) in the display area at a time. We have moved the payment area outside and have set up a protective screen. We will be available for help and advice where needed.
Please telephone or e-mail for a time slot - the answerphone is on at all times (no mobile signal on nursery). I will respond on the same day as far as possible - but please be patient if it takes a little longer.

Merrythought Nursery will be producing bedding plants, basket and patio plants, and finished baskets/containers this year. We will open for general sales when government guidelines allow this. I am planning the growing season to be slightly later than usual - there should be a good range well into June/July. I am happy to take orders or discuss requirements by phone or email.
For customers who usually have their own baskets refilled, we suggest leaving them at the main gate to the nursery in a bin bag with your name and contact details. We normally start the planting up process in late April/early May. Collection will be arranged from well-spaced tables in the paddock behind the nursery.
Payment can be cash or a cheque, preferably in something like a sandwich bag. We are investigating other methods of payment including BACS and Paypal.
When the time comes that we will be able to open the nursery we will follow any government guidelines for managing access, but we are considering limiting the number of customers in the tunnel (we’ll all be experts at social distancing by then!), or providing timed slots.
Obviously we live in ever changing times - this page will be updated when necessary. Once again please feel free to call or e-mail (there is an answerphone on at all times - remember we do not have a mobile phone signal here!).
We will do everything we can to ensure you have some colour to enjoy in your garden.
